Apparently Jonathan Li’s mom didn’t like the way her son was stroking the ping pong ball.

In a angry fit of rage she ran up to the table and grabbed her son’s racket hand and arm with 1 hand and wrapped her other arm around his neck.

She screams and yells at him while guiding him through a forehand table tennis stroke. Here choking grip tightens around the boy’s neck as she forcefully swings him back and forth.
The boy’s face displays his anguish through the process and as his sister watches, her fear and suffering shows as well.

When the mother finishes her stroke training she rails her arm back and whacks the boy’s behind as he tries to protect his rear.

Larry Bavly commented on About.com’s table tennis forum that the maneuver looked more like a pro-wrestler’s “Hammer Lock” to him rather than a choke.
Reviewing the photos, it looks to me that the lady choked the boy’s spirit more than his neck.
